The Fjord horse originates from Norway and resembles the Asiatic wild horse that is depicted in prehistoric cave paintings. The Fjord was used by the Vikings in battle and in the popular sport of horse fighting. Later this type of horse was used for agricultural work, being able to access rugged, mountainous area of extreme weather conditions areas where it is not possible to use tractors. Its history in a means it is sure-footed and hardy. Although the Fjord only reaches 14.2hh it is often referred to as a horse due to its muscular build.

The Fjord horse is dun with black dorsal stripe. The mane is dark in the centre and light on the outside. The Fjord horse is coloured dun with black dorsal stripe.

Fjord Horse is docile, friendly and hardworking.




Uses of the Fjord Horse


The Fjord horse is used as a general riding and driving pony, and for pack work and farm work. Fjords compete well in events such as Le Trec, Dressage, Western, Hunter Trials and Cross Country.
